Waste Audits

Our thorough waste characterization studies provide a complete analysis of the materials sent to the landfill. We often discover opportunities for increased recycling, with some materials offering significant income potential. We perform waste stream audits for LEED MRc6, zero waste certification, or just as a part of the process to achieve increased recycling and landfill diversion, as well as waste reduction.

Cost Reduction

We use a comprehensive evaluation process to analyze the waste disposal and recycling practices and expenses of our clients, and then design creative and cost effective solutions to reduce those costs. This includes on-site surveys to get a detailed understanding of your materials, equipment, procedures and needs. We follow up with implementation and training, to be certain your savings are achieved and maintained.

C & D Waste Management

Commercial and government construction projects are subject to specifications requiring waste diversion, increased recycling, salvage and reuse - as well as reporting details of your materials and tonnage throughout the project. Elite leverages their LEED training with waste management and cost reduction experience to bring our clients a full range of services to meet and exceed their sustainability goals.

Why do a waste audit?

A waste audit is a formal process used to quantify the amounts and types of waste being generated by a business. Most basic audits review the materials being recycled and land filled, the equipment and containers used, and the hauling services provided.

Cost savings is the main reason most business ask for a waste audit. More than 90% of businesses are over-paying for disposal services, and an experienced auditor can help find those savings, plus increase scrap and recycling income where applicable.

Working towards Zero Waste and LEED Certification is another reason companies choose to do a waste stream audit. ELITEperforms LEED Waste Stream Audits that meet the requirements for MRc6, and waste management plans that qualify for LEED MRc7, 8 and 9. Detailed Zero Waste Certification audits are also available.

What type of audit do I need?

The type of audit you use will depend on the type of waste, where it is located, and what you want to get out of the process. Are you looking to cut costs? If so, a basic visual audit with a review of your service levels, equipment, and hauler contracts will work.

You may also want to measure the effectiveness of your existing waste management systems and identify opportunities for improvement. Collecting information from a waste audit will help with base line data so you can demonstrate and report on future improvements.

A more in-depth waste audit, called a Waste Characterization Study, should be done if you are working towards a Zero Waste Goal or LEED Certification. This study takes a closer look at what's actually in your dumpsters. The audit will help identify cost reduction opportunities, but also provides detailed data on volumes and material.

You have questions? We have answers.

How much can I save?

The average client reduces their current waste costs by 20-60%. This can add significant improvement to your bottom line.

What kinds of clients do you serve?

Our clients represent all types of industries. We produce savings for manufacturers, industrial sites, restaurants, retirement homes, apartment complexes, supermarkets, retail stores, and more.

Can I pick and choose from your services?

Yes. We want to customize a plan that works for you. Whether you just want our basic cost reduction program, or you require more in-depth assistance with Green purchasing and Sustainability reporting, we can tailor our services to your needs. Compensation methods are also flexible.

What is Zero Waste?

The US Zero Waste Business Council defines this as schieving over 90% diversion of waste from landfills, incinerators, and the environment. To reach this goal, you must identify the materials used and waste generated to better refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and divert these items from the waste stream. ELITE can assist with Zero Waste Business Certification.

How much does your consulting service cost?

We are only paid when we produce a savings for you. Our fee is calculated as a portion of the waste expense savings we generate and comes from your current waste budget.

Will you work with an RFP or Bid process?

Yes. We can customize the compensation model to meet your needs. Even though the shared savings plan requires no upfront fees, some businesses prefer a standard contract.

What if I don't have money for this?

The money you will pay us comes from the savings we find for you, so there is no need to go through a formal budgetary review before using our services. Since we are reimbursed a percentage of what we save you, your actual budget costs for this year will be reduced even after you pay our fee.

What is the WARM Model?

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) created the Waste Reduction Model (WARM) to help solid waste planners and organizations track and voluntarily report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions from several different waste management practices.

Can't I just have my employees do this?

We are certified and experienced waste consultants with in-depth training and knowledge. Our team has access to the latest information available on recycling and waste handling, and can provide the expert assistance you need.

How long does an evaluation take?

We follow a rigorous 30-step process when evaluating every account. It typically takes 30-90 days of focused effort to complete our analysis, but don't worry - there is little to no time commitment from you or your staff.

How do you help us with Sustainability?

Our training in resource management and green purchasing can help you achieve specific goals related to your sustainability plan. No plan? Talk to us about the steps to get started.

What is LEED?

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. LEED promotes sustainable building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance.
